A toilet trap is a curved channel fixed at the base of the toilet and goes down from the hole to the drainpipe.
If the water is not going down the drainpipe when there is no clogging there, it shows that it is with the trap. It is very important to determine where the problem is happening.
It can either be in the drainpipe or trap. Whatever the case is, you need to address it immediately because it becomes worse.
Does the right diagnosis depend on how thoroughly you check the trap and the drain? There are no separate drain pipes for each attachment in the bathroom.
The toilets, tubs, and sinks go into one drain, so it is due to the trap if there is a problem.
If there is a clogging problem with the toilet and the trap, then the easiest way to resolve the issue is to get a toilet plunger.
If it fails to handle, then switch to using the toilet auger. Both these options can help you clear the clogs of all kinds, even those in the trap.
What Causes Clogging In The Toilet Trap?
Clogging has no particular reason. It can happen because of tiny obstacles and huge objects.
Usually, clogging happens when toilet paper goes in, or a mold develops in the pipes, making it hard for the water or waste to pass through.
There is no need to trust the disposable wipes that have flushable written on the package. They can even have stuck in the flush and bother you.
If there are young kids in the family, there is a possibility that they would throw something unwanted in the toilet, causing the trap to clog.
If you ask the drain openers in the town about what they found most in the trap other than the toilet papers, they would say it is the toys.
Clearing The Trap
There are two different ways of clearing the trap. It is either the plunger or the auger that can clear the trap, letting you enjoy a better flow in the trap.
Clearing With The Plunger
The plunger works great, especially when the clogging is due to paper-based agents like toilet paper.
Even if there is a stubborn cause of clogging, it must be the first choice to try clearing the clogging. A flange plunger is the best choice for handling the clogging.
Before clearing the toilet, make sure that the toilet bowl has enough water. The water level should be such that the water fills the plunger cup and the seal.
Set the plunger against the water in the bowl in an angular way. As the cup gets filled with the water, the plunging force increases too. As you press the cup against the hole, it will start working as a seal.
Move the plunger vigorously in a movement similar to in and out pavement. The water will go in both directions in the drain.
The resultant push and pull movement makes the clog get loose. Use the plunger five or six times until the clog gets completely cleared.
Repeat the process until the clog is gone.
Clearing With The Toilet Auger
Auger is a combo of a J-shaped tube and a cable. It works with a handle. It looks like a drain snake.
The tube supports the cable and allows it to move into the trap. This movement does not harm the toilet bowl.
Pull out the auger handle in such a way that only the tip of the cable is visible at the end of the tube.
Ensure that you insert the end of the tube so that it goes at the maximum depth into the bowl’s hole.
Keep pushing the handle downwards and keep moving the cable in the clockwise direction. This pressure will force the cable down in the trap.
The cranking movement allows the end of the cable into the trap bends. Keep repeating the cranking until it stops going more.
Once the cable stops, start pulling it out through the tube. You might have to repeat the process thrice or four times.
Keep pressurizing it in the left and right direction. This would clear the clogging.
Toilet trap is the junction of the interior and the exterior. It is a complicated and complex part of the toilet.
Anything stuck in the trap can complicate the affair for the home dwellers.
The slight closure can prevent the expulsion of the wastes and the water out of the bowl. Therefore, it is very important to clear the trap as soon as you find any problem.
